Royals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Rookie Mike Aviles has been a sparkplug since the Royals promoted him May 28 to replace Tony Pena Jr. as the starting shortstop.
Aviles, however, had an abysmal game Tuesday night in the field and at the plate in a 7-5 loss to the Orioles.
Aviles went 0-for-5, grounded into two double plays and stranded eight runners.
“There’s a learning curve, and he’s got to keep adjusting because the league is going to adjust to him,” Royals manager Trey Hillman said.
Aviles did not make a fielding error, but he had two costly defensive gaffes that led to six Baltimore runs.
In the second inning, Aviles took a relay throw from left fielder Jose Guillen and had ample time to throw out Adam Jones at home.

Fortunately, Sherrill had plenty of margin for error.
